A Not so Good/Not so Bad Kinda' Day

I knew when I stood up to switch seats so that I could assist my son, Joseph, with his math work this morning, that the rest of the day was going to pan out differently that I had planned.

My head felt very woozy and the room was tilting and swaying.

"Ah-oh", I thought. "I've got *IT*".

Two of my daughters were already in bed, too dizzy and nauseous to get up for school.

A strange "something" had gripped them...no fever, no cough, nothing really...except a headache and AWFUL dizziness...

I hardly EVER get sick...but I knew that I wasn't going to be on my feet for long.

I managed to finish Joey's work with him...he got his English, Phonics, Spelling, and Math done.

"Good enough", I said. "Let's call it  a day".

"What about the rest of us?" a myriad of voices asked, at once.

"Sorry, kids. Mummy doesn't feel very well right now."

That's all I needed to say.

"MOM IS SICK!" rang out through the rafters....little busy bodies ran here and there, offering tea, blankets, and pretzels (too cute).

It was so sweet how all of my children gathered round me to make sure I was "ok".

Even the two sickies from upstairs came downstairs so that we could all "zone out" together in one place.

I remembered that my Mum had told me about an online PA tv station that was filming live at FARM WEEK.

My son brought the laptop over and I found the site...and our "not so good" day ended up being a "not so bad" day as we were enthralled and excited by the shows we were able to see.

There were pony carriage races, and a "Sheep to Shawl" contest which was simply amazing...teams competing to card wool, spin it and loom it into shawls ...FANTASTIC and SO educational!

We laughed at the sound of the Auctioneer's voice as he rattled off bids for a Steer...my heart leaped for JOY as Mary, Grace, and Joe proceeded to explain to the rest of the family what "exactly" a "steer" is...for they'd recently learned about that in their Pioneer Unit Study.

Let me tell you, it is every homeschooling mother's dream to catch her kids in a moment when they are applying their lessons in a natural life-experience setting. Woo hoo! ("They ARE learning!" we think to ourselves.)

The rest of the day, we sipped hot, leftover potato soup, rested, and watched "The Farm Show".

I thought to myself..."Even an icky-I-don't-feel-so-good-day is a good day when I have these beautiful children by my side."

Still...it was even nicer when the room finally stopped spinning. (My dear husband offered me a nap after dinner...and that, plus a hot bath, seems to have done the trick.)

Tomorrow is the last day of the Farm Show.

I think we'll skip some formal classes to enjoy it!

If you'd like to check it out, you can do so, HERE.
